Dr. Wuwongse received her first degree from the University of Nottingham in Medical Sciences and her doctorate in Neuroscience at the University of Hong Kong. She has been awarded the ASEAN Scholarship from the Ministry of Education in Singapore. Pin is currently working as a Technology Transfer Specialist at the US Army Medical Research Directorate of the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangkok, Thailand; her highly-skilled role is to facilitate the commercialization of research and technology developed by scientists at the institute.
Prior to discovering the world of technology transfer, she has been trained as a neuroscientist, examining the cellular and molecular culprits for Alzheimer’s disease and depression, and her work has been published in leading scientific journals. Pin’s decision to pursue higher education stemmed from her honors year project at the University of Nottingham. After spending several years in academia, Pin realized climbing the “academic-ladder” would not be her life-long career choice, and she is happy with her current specialized position.
Pin’s advice for us is… “there are diverse opportunities for anyone interested in a career in science, not just be a doctor in the hospital or a professor in university”; moreover, “identifying the subjects you enjoy in school is not the challenge, the real challenge is how to plan your higher education and career based on your favorite subjects”.
