We understand the difficulty for a secondary schooler having to decide on a major subject to study in university; and for those who are thinking of entering professional schools, they are actually choosing their careers, often prematurely! As a result, it is not unusual that some of these students would give up the subject choice and wasting valuable time to reapply for another field to study, with no guarantee of success! Indeed, not placing the student in the most appropriate university major is one of the most important reasons for dropout (1). Not being able to finish university could have detrimental consequences for the youngster, psychologically and vocationally.
To minimize the possibility of choosing the “wrong step” ahead, the Consultancy specializes in conducting personality and career analyses to understand and objectively envisage the suitable career path(s).
Each analysis is a 2-hour session including background inquisition, objective testing, and formal interviewing. The gathered results will be used to formulate the summary profile, which will be discussed in an 1-hour session. A copy of the report will be provided for reference.
Preparing the portfolio is undoubtedly one of the most essential components for university application. Admission officers, especially those from prestigious institutions, would rely heavily on the presenting portfolio for initial screening. As such, a suboptimal presentation of the portfolio - even with more than satisfactory academic performance – could render an application unsuccessful. Moreover, the portfolio is not only for screening purpose. Should the applicant be offered an interview, the portfolio will be scrutinized by the Admission Committee members again.
The Consultancy has the expertise to provide in-depth guidance on the preparation and organization of portfolio. We do NOT prepare the documents for our clients, as these activities are important for self-reflection and growth, and we want to nurture the sense of responsibility. The Consultancy would, however, assist in “polishing” all components of the portfolio before submission, which may include counselling on personal statement and advice on additional extracurricular activities that would be beneficial for the application. We recommend this process be initiated early, so there would be sufficient time for the applicant to improve the portfolio before submitting the application. Up to 20 hours of interactions will be included with our team of specialists.
Choosing the most suitable university is a daunting task. It is not about simply choosing the most prestigious institution possible. Each university differs in its areas of strength – teaching, research, resources including facilities and library holdings, reputation, society commitment to name a few. Ultimately, not only the school chooses its students, but one should also choose the school that offers the “best-match”. The Consultancy has extensive knowledge on university particulars through ongoing research and educational fair participations. We work with the applicant to decipher their needs and match them with the most appropriate institutions. The choices are further narrowed and prioritized. The consulting team will spend up to 10 hours to compile the information and have discussion session(s) with the applicant.
The interview is arguably the most crucial exercise in gaining admission to the study programme of choice. Receiving an invitation for an interview means the applicant has passed the screening and remains competitive for admission. The Admission Committee usually examines the portfolio meticulously before the interview and prepare sharp questions to “sieve out” the best candidates for the limited places. Interviewing methods have been modified and diversified in the recent decade. Frequently, many perfectly acceptable candidates did not gain acceptance because of inadequate interview performance. The Consultancy has a special expertise on professional school interviewing techniques and offers up to 10 hours of interactive coaching.
The work of the Consultancy does not end at the applicant’s receipt of admission offer. We care about the well-being of our budding professionals and scientists. Throughout the application process, our consultants would have built solid relationships with our clients. As such, we are in an excellent position to offer tailored and specialized advice to them when they are attending university. We have the expertise in supporting students with course selection, career choice, and personal development.
